Cato Institute

Founded in 1977, the Cato Institute is a nonpartisan public policy research organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. Its mission is to originate, disseminate, and increase understanding of public policies based on the principles of individual liberty, limited government, free markets, and peace.

Cato's scholars produce research and commentary across a wide range of issues, including law and civil liberties, criminal justice, trade and immigration, tax and budget policy, monetary policy, regulation, education, health care, and foreign policy and national security.

To maintain its independence, the Cato Institute accepts no government funding of any kind, foreign or domestic, and relies on contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
